Exploring Global Best Practices in Energy Efficient Mortgages

The decarbonization of the EU’s building stock demands substantial investment that public sector funding alone cannot cover, making private financing solutions essential. To address this, the Energy Efficient Mortgage Initiative (EEMI) has created an “EEMI Ecosystem” based on research in Scotland and Trento, combining market innovation, digitalization, and green finance across the value chain. This Ecosystem aims to streamline the customer journey in home energy renovation by guiding consumers to financial and technical resources while supporting financial institutions in adopting sustainable lending practices.

The Ecosystem provides crucial data on energy performance and EU Taxonomy alignment, advancing industry standards and supporting gradual alignment with EU legislation. The EEMI roadmap includes a consumer simulator, financing options, and a certified supplier directory, all underpinned by extensive research. EEMI will continue expanding this Ecosystem across European jurisdictions to promote energy-efficient building investments.
