Brussels, 7 January 2020 – For immediate release
The Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM) Initiative is delighted to announce that CiviBank has joined the Energy Efficient Mortgages Pilot Scheme. As of today, 52 lending institutions have committed to test the implementation of the final energy efficient mortgages framework into their existing product lines and processes.
These lending institutions are joined by 33 supporting organisations throughout EU and by 14 national, European and International institutions of the Advisory Council, which advises on the development of the Pilot Scheme in the market.
The EEM Initiative aims at delivering a mortgage financing mechanism, according to which borrowers are incentivised to improve the energy efficiency of their properties or to acquire highly energy efficient properties, by way of favourable financial conditions linked to the mortgage. The Initiative will furthermore develop a data collection infrastructure for energy efficient mortgages.
Luca Bertalot, Energy Efficient Mortgages Initiative Coordinator, commented:
“We are delighted to welcome CiviBank as a new member of the Energy Efficient Mortgages Initiative Pilot Scheme. Their participation further strengthens the scheme in Italy, and reinforces the link with the expectations of both the territory and its consumers. We look forward to the role they will play in supporting the deployment of energy efficient mortgages in the Italian market, where 13 Italian Banks are active in the Initiative and the Italian Banking Association has recently established a market led Steering Committee to ensure policy coordination...”
Marco Mosanghini, of CiviBank’s Treasury and Funding, said:
“ The participation of Civibank in the Energy Efficient Mortgages Initiative is an important step forward in the implementation of our business strategy geared towards social responsibility and sustainability. Civibank’s mission is to serve as a key partner to the households and businesses of the Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto regions in order to promote social, economic and cultural growth in the local community and already offers a wide range of “green” products: “Conto Green” deposits ; “Ecoprestito” loans to finance dwellings renovations and the services supplied by its subsidiary “Civiesco”. Joining the EEMI Pilot Scheme is a great opportunity for Civibank to improve the characteristics of our “green” loans and, ultimately, to strengthen the bank’s role in fostering the energy transition in our territory.”
