❯ 4 – Roll out across EU markets

As the Energy Efficient Mortgages Initiative (EEMI) building blocks have evolved, attention has turned to developing the market through the establishment of national market hubs to adapt and roll-out the EEM ecosystem across European jurisidictions, as well as consumer research to understand consumer preferences and guide the design of the customer journey.

National hubs: EEMI national market hubs are active in Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, the Nordics, Spain and the UK (Scotland).

The EEM market hubs are: 

  1. exploring the implementation of the “ecosystem” throughout the whole customer journey and mortgage lifecycle; 
  2. closing the information gap and supporting financial decision making and mortgage underwriting with consistent, robust and easily accessible data; and 
  3. ensuring value chain integration to streamline administrative costs, data management, liabilities, performance guarantees, etc. 

Consumer research: Understanding the key drivers of consumer demand, alongside a deep appreciation of what consumers perceive as valuable, constitutes a cornerstone of designing a marketable financial product. Research conducted in 2018 under the EEMI in Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK provided valuable insights into the appeal, relevance and understandability of EEM and pointed to consumer preferences in this area.

In 2021, the EEMI extended this research to Hungary, Romania and the Netherlands, and conducted a deeper-dive into the markets already surveyed, with a view to driving sharper, concrete insights to guide segment specific value proposition development.
